See It

The problem that I am trying to solve is hunger in the local area, and I am hoping to help the communities of Green Bay, Neenah, and Oshkosh. My plan was to raise awareness of hunger and get 3 petitions signed, one from each city, and present them to Wisconsin’s government to see if a statewide hunger fund could be started if it isn’t already. I mean, the number of people who die from hunger every 3 and ½ days is the same number as how many people died when the atom bomb was dropped on Hiroshima during WWII. Also, 13 million children got to bed hungry every day in the U.S. And to add to that, 1 out of 4 seniors has an inadequate diet. If that still doesn’t convince you that hunger is a problem, listen to this fact: every year 6 million children won’t live to see 6 years old as a result of hunger. You may be wondering why I’m the right person to try and stop this problem, and it’s because I have heard about hunger and after seeing the facts, it’s frightening. Being a little bit hungry, like 12 hours without food is not pleasant, but some people go over a day without food, and that’s just not right. Every 5 seconds a child is dying from hunger, and this is on a world-wide scale. No one should have to go hungry. Every single person in the world deserves to have food, no matter how they’re dressed, or how poor they are, or what religion they come from. So that’s why I want to put a stop to this. Jonathan

Believe It

My project is an Anti-Hunger campaign. How the project would work is I would raise awareness about hunger and get petitions signed in 3 cities, Oshkosh, Green Bay, and Neenah. I would be doing this project in the summer from June 15th to July 27th. I would be using the $500 from the grant to put up posters and advertisement, and I would contact the government to see if the rest could be used to start a statewide hunger fund, if there isn’t already one started. I would also hold a food drive from July 6th to 8th. All the food I would collect from that drive I would take to a local food shelter or food pantry that gives food to the hungry and needy. Now you’re probably thinking: how does this project address the problem of hunger? It will address it because I will send in public-service announcements to a Green Bay TV station to see if maybe I could get a story with my project. Hunger is a serious problem in Oshkosh, and Neenah, and Green Bay and every other city in every other country in every other continent in the world! Because think about it. Would you want to go to bed almost every day hungry and starving, dealing with the pain of an empty stomach? If not, then why should anyone else on the planet have to! Hunger is no joke. The world needs to stop making excuses on how they can’t stop world hunger…….they need to start making changes. So that’s why I want to put a stop to this. I would love if I could get that grant so I could help this cause. I’ve had enough of watching the adults in the world like George Bush try to fix hunger and fail; it’s the kids’ turn now.

Build It

The first step of my project is to actually get the grant, then get to work with advertisements and petitions, and food drives and public-service announcements. How my project has grown since I first thought of it is that the more I researched it the more I got into it and I got more excited to actually get this project rolling. I am now doing this project to help others, not just for a grade. Jonathan

How Can Others Get Involved?

They can help by signing any one of the petitons or donating food to a local food pantry.

Good facts, But maybe you could focus it a little more, like to 1 city inless you think you can do all 3.
