The Problem
I have been on two 10-day mission projects to Honduras, Central America. During these trips I help to build houses there for those in need. I have helped to build 4 houses during my two visits. The houses that the families live in there are what we refer to as "shacks". They are made of old, splintery wood bonded together by sloppy, dirty mud with dirt floors and roofs from spare tin. We build them concrete houses so their shelter provides them with much better protection. We also collect and take the children school supplies so they can continue to go to school to further their education.
Plan of Action
The families are so appreciative of the houses and the supplies that we provide. Other families allow us to stay in their homes while we are there and provide us with food. These trips have been unique and rewarding experiences which I will remember for as long as I live. The people we help are eternally grateful and it has made me realize that we should really not take for granted all of the wonderful amenities that we have available to us every day.
