The Problem
All over the world, there are orphans and needy children. I want to give them something that makes them feel there is HOPE. I want to ENCOURAGE them to never give up. I want to touch their lives with LOVE. I want to impact our world with PEACE. Thus I created HOPE, ENCOURAGEMENT, LOVE, PEACE (H.E.L.P.)
Why It's Important
HELP makes and distributes blankets to orphans and needy children around the world. The mission of HELP is to touch a child's life with a warm blanket. The purpose is to reach out in friendship to our neighbors around the world and in so doing, make an impact on world peace. The motto of HELP is "Creating peace one blanket at a time."
The Plan Of Action
I started making no-sew fleece blankets to send to needy children around the world. I wrote the articles of incorporation and by-laws for HELP, and applied to become a recognized charitable organization. I solicited donations and volunteers, and I connected with organizations in third-world countries to receive and distribute the blankets. We now have two chapters of HELP -- in California and North Carolina. Since the inception of HELP in November 2008, we have made and shipped blankets to orphans and needy children in Egypt, Iraq, Afghanistan, Gaza, and Honduras. We are currently working on shipments to Rwanda and Haiti. Every blanket is packaged with a letter from HELP that says, "This blanket was made with love and is given to you in friendship." Every blanket label is engraved with "Blankets for Peace."
How Can Others Get Involved?
We need many volunteers to make blankets, sew on labels, and package them for shipping. Financial donations help offset the costs of purchasing fleece and mailing overseas.
