The Problem

50% of Haitian children do not graduate primary schools. 80% do not graduate secondary schools. Many schools were damaged during the earthquake and they never reopened. There are hundreds of children who live in tents communities in the village of Meyotte who cannot go to school because their parents cannot afford the tuition. The community really desires a school and a Haitian grassroots organization, OFPADAH (Organization of Proud Patriots for Development of Haiti), is trying to find the resources to build the school.

Plan of Action

I am going to raise $10,000 by June and build this school by October 2011 so that children can start going to school in the new semester. I am also trying to network to connect OFPADAH to different NGOs and funds that are being allocated to reconstruction of Haiti. Schools are key infrastructure to rebuild, so I believe it is the matter of connecting the Haitian community's need to a trustworthy organization and funding source.
