The Human Rights Campaign is this countries largest Civil Rights organization. I am extremely proud to be apart of this organization that helps individuals in the GLBT community to recieve equal rights. This last September I was rewarded the position of the Human Rights Campagin Northeatern Indiana and Fort Wayne Youth Volunteer Coordinator. Since then I have helped do many things; such as volunteering at the Democractic Headquarters in Fort Wayne to help promote voting around election time, promoting safe sex, youth involvement in local and state governement, and many other things. I have also gotten the privilage of meeting of the United States best Senators, Evan Byah. Living in north east Indiana can be very trying at times for an individual in the GLBT community, and as a leader of my school and community I feel it is my responsibility to let the youth know that it is okay to be who they are, to be expressive, and to be an individual regardless of social popularity. I reside in the third district of Indiana and it the the third most conservitive Republican District in the United States. I also help out with other groups in our district such as Horizons, which is a organization for youth that are gay, bisexual, lesiban, and alliance's. I am in the process of developing a Human Rights Campaign group in our school. As you can imagaine, this is a very trying and difficult process with a full republican administration, but I can and will succeed. This year my goal is to help promote the passing of the ENDA bill, this bill is the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, did you know in many states it is legal to hire and fire someone purely based on their sexuality? In 31 sates it is legal to hire and fire based on sexual orientation and in 39 states it is leagal to hire and fire someone based on gender indentity. This organization has impacted my life and that is why I am taking the time and perserverance to help not only myself but the GLBT community as a whole.
