The Problem

Iced Capades Cakery was born as a way to provide joy, in the form of cupcakes, to children in various women's shelters and homeless shelters throughout the Houston area. Many kids who reside in shelters don't have the luxury of birthdays cakes or parties, things we usually take for granted. Many don't have the opportunity to celebrate their birthdays because they often move from shelter to shelter. Our organization's goal is to provide some stability in the sometimes turbulent lifestyles of shelter clients. We simply aim to provide happiness to kids using the medium of cupcakes and cakes.

Plan of Action

My cousin and I started Iced Capades Cakery when we realized that we were churning out way too many cakes and cupcakes for our family and friend to consume. Not to mention the rapid, explosive weight gain. So, I called up several local shelters and pitched the idea of a birthday cake program. We initially started out small, providing 70 cupcakes a month to one shelter, to celebrate all the birthdays of that month. During this time, we set up a website and took steps to further organize and establish our cakery. Once we had set up the operational aspect of our organization, we set out to recruit more volunteers (through word of mouth)and to secure more funds. With this added stability, we ventured to expand the area served by our program, offering our services to 3 more shelters in the surrounding county. And we're still continuing to grow by seeking out more shelters and volunteers!
