Kids vs Global Warming

the problem:
Climate change is the most urgent and potentially dangerous issue of our time. Scientists say we have less than 5 years to make the changes necessary to avoid the worst effects of this crisis.
But unfortunately, people still aren't considering climate change as a top priority. There are all these other issues that are more important to them. And it's because we are not personally affected YET by this crisis. Our lives are not concretely changed YET. And that is what our challenge is: helping people realize that the climate crisis is the most urgent issue of our time, even though we are not yet seeing the worst effects.

50why it's important:
The young generation are going to be affected more than anyone else by climate change. We, as youth are going to have to grow up to face the consequences of the decisions the ruling generation makes today. So I think it's only right that our opinions are heard. Some of us may be too young to vote, but our voices are too passionate to be ignored.
We are planning an event called the iMatter March. Happening late 2010, it will consist of 1 million youth from all across the country coming together all on the same day to demand that the ruling generation considers our survival as a top priority.
There will be separate marches in all 50 states, organized by youth leaders who authentically care about climate change, and are ready for their voices to be heard.
We are going to issue a revolutionary wake up call so loud, so provocative, and so unquestioning that every person is forced to look into their children's eyes as they ask them, "Do I matter to you?"
We will show them actions we've already taken in our community, and let them know that if they care at all about their children's future, they will do everything they can to solve the climate crisis before it's too late.
the plan of action:
Partnerships with organizations and businesses, taking advantage of social media (Facebook, Twitter, text messeging, and even a state-of-the-art iPhone app called iMatter!) and working with the parents, teachers, and mentors of youth around the country to coordinate marches and bring people together. And also, of course, working with empowered youth leaders to organize separate marches in all 50 states!
how you can get involved:
Well, we are looking for youth leaders in all 50 states to coordinate marches at their school campuses, state capitols, city halls, and anywhere else they'd like!
