The Problem
IFLA sees the lack of formal higher education focused on finance in the Dominican Republic as both a deficiency and an opportunity. Our vision is to address this deficiency by encouraging the creation of a finance curriculum at Dominican universities and encouraging Dominican students to seek out this type of training. It is also an opportunity in that Latin America is becoming more relevant in the context of the global financial market. Empowering Latin American students to be finance leaders in their communities will further serve the growth of Latin America and its people.
Plan of Action
We are in the process of developing executive and committee boards that will engage in various activities that bring our vision and strategy to life. Detailed below is a list of activities what will allow us to realize our vision and carry out our strategy:
Foundation: We will seek non-profit incorporation for IFLA in the state of Illinois as a 503-C entity.
Marketing: We will promote the foundation and its mission through several approaches. We will recruit perspective students who are in their last year of secondary school or first year in university with a budding interest in business and finance. We are creating a website that will advertise our mission, introduce the program leaders, and offer the option to start the application process.
Fund Raising: We will seek sponsorship and donations to fund all aspects of the week long seminar (i.e. facilities, supplies, travel for lecturers, field trips). Our fund raising efforts will target corporations and special interest groups that are connected to finance, education, youth development, and Latin America (Dom Rep. especially).
Communication: Our communications efforts will be focused on building strategic alliances with groups that can assist in serving our mission and would expect to see some benefit as a result of our efforts. Professional organizations, Dominican universities and education ministries, and the financial industry are all friends of the IFLA and welcomed partners.
