In collaboration with Give Hope, Fight Poverty (a 501c3 nonprofit organization www.ifightpoverty.org) Elias and his classmates in Indianapolis, IN will create storybooks to give to their Swazi peers. Within these books the students will answer questions such as "where do you sleep," "what do you play with," and "what do you wear on your feet"using photographs that the students will take with disposable cameras. We will put these photos into storybooks about the students and our lives here in the U.S., making sure that the books are colorful, friendly, and full of hope for their friends across the world.
Then, Give Hope, Fight Poverty will have the Swazi orphans make storybooks of their own describing their lives in photos in June 2013. I can't wait to see their photobooks! We anticipate that the students on both sides of the world will find more similarities than they may have expected in their photo storybooks although they are raised in different circumstances so far away.
Your grant will not end there. Once we receive the photobooks from the orphans in Swaziland, to the students in Elias’ class will use them to raise awareness in our community about the Swazi children. We will be able to teach our friends, families, and community about our Swazi friends and encourage them to help us with our picture book drive. Elangeni primary school educates 630 impoverished children (many orphaned) and they currently do not have a library. With your help, our photo storybooks will be their very first, but our plan is to have a successful picture book drive to ensure that the Swazi kids will have plenty more to read and enjoy for years to come!
