The Problem

Attempting to understand, take action, and solve pollution entering California's Los Cerritos Wetlands through urban storm runoff. Through the use of stable isotopic techniques to describe the origination of hydrologic waters entering the estuary. Description of environmental remediation techniques to help restore and protect future marsh habitats.

Plan of Action

Study urban runoff inputs into the system. Use environmental isotopes as tracers to better understand the complex hydrological pathways intrinsic to the coastal environment. Develop new methods of catching and preventing litter and trash from entering the habitats. Educate the populace on why wetlands are very important to human sustainability and emphasize the three Rs of eco-friendly methods: reduce, reuse, recycle!
