It Starts With Us!

the problem:

At Logan Avenue Elementary school we have a very diverse population, both socio-economically and culturally. Because of this, we feel very blessed that we have the opportunity to learn about and respect others right in our very own “backyard.” Although we do have such a “mixed” population, we are often painfully aware that many of us can sometimes feel that we have something to offer our world, our community, our peers or even the adults at school. Because of this we have decided to focus on the social and emotional well-being of all the kids at school. The quote by James Comer, “Learning is about relationships. – “No significant learning will take place without a significant relationship,” says everything about what we feel is an extremely important part of the focus we have this year at our school. We believe in each other and our families and know that right now, we need more people who care about others. We are willing to share of ourselves in order to make the world a better place. Because of this belief, we know that it is never too early to start being kids who are aware of the world outside. By fostering relationships and building assets in each other it is our intent to provide everyone with the skills to enable us all to be caring, responsible, culturally aware and productive members of society .
