Vital Stats

 project idea
People Impacted:  4500000

See It

There is a genocide going on in Darfur. Over 450,000 conflict related deaths since 2003. There are 2.5 million displaced and homeless and there have been 200,000 displaced in the first six months of 2008. 90% of Darfuri villages have been destroyed. There are 4.5 million people destitute and totally dependent on foreign humanitarian assistance. Thousands of women in refugee camps face the threat of sexual violence with at least 10 rape cases reported every month.

Believe It

I am in the Save Darfur Club at my school. Our purpose is to help the people of Darfur by raising awareness and raising money. The money will play a critical role in building the political pressure needed to end the crisis in Darfur. We meet every week to come up with ways of spreading awareness in our school and just in general.

Build It

The project that I have come up with to help raise money is a benifit concert. I have a band (and still getting more bands)that are willing to play for free. I still need to call my local city hall to get a permit and I still need to get money to get a concert hall and equipment for the concert. The money raised at the concert will be going to help stop the genocide in Darfur.

How Can Others Get Involved?

When I have a specific date for the concert all I need is for people to spread the word about the concert so that the turnout will be bigger.

this is awesome! when i was in high school, i ran a local bandfest and it's so much fun to bring together music and a good cause. maybe you could also have everybody at the event sign a petition or a letter to your local representatives to tell the government how important darfur is to you.

congrats.
:)

good to see people helping with the same cause.
