Journey of Action
the problem:
As we all know, the youth played a major role in the success of the Obama campaign. However, it is one thing to vote for change and another to make change happen. The youth is aware of the challenges we face, but they are craving to know what they can actively do to cause change. People must change first, then the government will follow.
Journey of Action's mission is to inspire the youth to become global citizens. We must educate our youth and encourage them to actively participate in their local community and our global community.

2why it's important:
Right now our generation is faced with many great challenges and a call to action is more imperative than ever. It is up to us to unite and create a more sustainable future. Journey of Action will lead the way in educating and inspiring the youth to activate. The project will become apart of the already existing movement, bring attention to it, and will cause it to flourish.
the plan of action:
In April 2010, my brother and I will be driving the Pan American Highway from Alaska to Argentina. We will be volunteering with and showcasing local and global non-profit organizations, universities, and high schools that are making a positive impact locally and abroad as well as companies that are socially and environmentally conscious. We will be addressing a number of issues from the environment, education, immigration, poverty, human rights, gay rights, war-peace-politics and others in the hope of attracting a diverse audience. It is an education-focused project aimed at inspiring social activism and responsibility within the youth as well as revealing the adventurous, spontaneous, and exciting aspects of traveling.
Two filmmakers will document our journey. We are going to have a website where we blog daily, upload our photography, and MOST importantly have weekly Webisodes from our trip.
This website will be a social networking place for activist and inspiring activists, to connect with each other and to learn about all the non-pro fit organizations, universities & high schools, and companies we will be showcasing and working with.
This project will just be the beginning of creating a following that will foster a community of activated and informed youth.
how you can get involved:
Though we do not leave until April 2010, we are in essence beginning the trip right now.
We are still expanding our list of non-profit organizations, universities & high schools, and companies we want to expose. We need your suggestions.
We are still expanding our network of contacts. People we can stay with along the way.
And we are still seeking sponsorships and funding. To make this project a success we need two great filmmakers, equipment, a vehicle that accommodates four people and we need financial support to pay for border crossings and getting across the Darien Gap.
Now, once we get all that taken care of, the number one thing we want you to do is join our journey! Soon we will have a itinerary up on our website (www.journeyofaction.com) where you will be able to find out where we will be traveling and the issue(s) we will be addressing in each town/city. Find the issue that you are passionate about and come meet us and volunteer with us!
