Judge The Deed, Not The Breed

the problem:

I would like to diminsh both dog fighting and the discrimination for Pittbulls as a breed.

why it's important:

I own a Pitbull. His name is Kilo and he is a sweetheart. Kilo is not in any way, shape, or form violent. I strongly believe that it is the deed that should be judged, not the breed. Kilo is proof of this statement. Also, as a longtime vegetarian and humanitarian, animal violence sickens me. People, like Michael Vick for example, are disgusting. Dogs should never be bred to fight. They are gentle and need to be taken care of. Misusing their trust is no different than misusing a person's.

the plan of action:

Spread awareness of the horror that dog fighting brings to the table and also spread the awareness that Pitbulls as a breed are not violent.

how you can get involved:

Knowledge is infectious.

Sounds great! I actually just found a home for a pit bull mix that was rescued from a dog fighting ring. What kinds of things do you plan to do to further your cause and take action?

For right now I am spreading the word. Knowledge is infectious and I feel that the more people that know the horror of dog fighting and the discrimination faced against pitbulls (both mixed and not) will only enforce the cause and make both problems come to an end. After more people are aware of the problems these creatures are faced with I would love to expand.

By expand I mean that it would be brilliant if this cause was spread more and petitions were signed to end dog fighting. Naturally, trying to get people like Michael Vick to stop what it is that they are doing will be a tough job, but i feel that as a group this can be accomplished.

I would love to see people talking about this with friends, raising awareness generally. I do believe that jsut by sheer knowledge of what is being done to these animals many things can be accomplished and in the long run i would love to see this be taken into politics to try and finalize the end of their torment.

For now, spread the word and even get ahold of local media providers and try and get a slightly higher authority than yourself to speak publicly about the mistreatment and discrimination against Pitbulls.

Also, I would love to see more rescue shelters for abused and mistreated animals. A sanctuary where they can feel comfortable and safe knowing that the pain is over.

Thank you for your interest and time,
Samantha Marie

Hi Samantha Marie,

Have you checked out whether any of the local animal hospitals or shelters have any programs set-up like this? If they don't, perhaps you could work with them to start one. Have you applied for a Do Something Grant? www.dosomething.org/grants

Good luck and let us know how things turn out.

Best,
Kevin
