Junior Art Club (JAC)

The Problem

Based in Accra, Ghana, the JAC uses visual and expressive arts as a means to engage Accra's youth in positive, confidence building activities.  JAC provides Ghanaian youth with the tools to express themselves in a creative, non-violent manner and the opportunity to not only learn artistic skills, but life skills as well.  I first became involved with the JAC as a volunteer art teacher over three years ago.  Since that first trip, I have helped the JAC fundraise money and supplies to start a Multi-Media Center and a Black and White Darkroom and have returned twice to lead workshops in painting and B&W darkroom skills. In addition I have organized several exhibtions of the JAC members' work here in the United States.
