I designed and implement a year round program called KARDed, Kids Aware of Rheumatoid Diseases and educated. The program is designed to create awareness of Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (JRA) while in the process raise funds for The Arthritis Foundation. KARDed not only educates people about JRA but promotes volunteerism for students from elementary school to university age. It is my mission to educate my peers, create awareness and promote community service involvement.
From personal experience, I found JRA is a mystery to kids, adults, and even doctors. I have made it my mission to create awareness of JRA. My activity impacts others by creating awareness, understanding the magnitude of the disease and motivating others to become involved. My activities give people the opportunity to ask questions regarding JRA and raise money to find a cure. Through speaking engagements, and annual fundraisers that take place twice a year, KARDed continues to grow and impact others. KARDed also has a team at the annual Arthritis Walk in Nashville. In 2006 we won the Largest Youth Team Award and in 2007 we won the Top Civic Team Award. KARDed also has corporate sponsors including Vanderbilt Medical Center, Starbucks, Walmart, and Tennessee Orthopedic Alliance. KARDed continues to create awareness and raise funds to help stop diminishing the hopes and dreams of the over 300,000 kids who suffer from arthritis.

I just wanted to say that KARDed sounds like a great program, and i wish there was something like it in my area.
I was diagnosed with JRA when i was 15 (i am 18 now), and i have found that people are very unaware of what JRA is. i cant even count the number of times someone has said "Arthritis, only old people get that", or something of that sort. But i always try and turn that type of situation into educating that person a little bit on what JRA really is. as it sounds like you do too.
If you need any help with KARDed - i would love to be involved.
I tried sending an email to the address listed but - it didnt work
Hey there,
Thank you so much for the note.If you are truly wanting to get involved, I would be so excited to have you help.
I can give you more information on what I do, how I get it done, and tell you how you could continue KARDed in your area.
I editted the email, I think I know why it didn't work; they changed our email addresses at the start of the year and I forgot to change it! My new email (that should work) is tcox@harpethhall.org
PLEASE feel free to email me anytime and we could possibly work something out to make this work!
I have found that just after only 2 and a half years since KARDed was founded, people in the Nashville area have truly become aware of JRA. That is the main point of the project! I have had moms call me panicing because their child was just diagnosed with JRA. It is amazing how many kids are out there with this silent epidemic. If you are willing to get involved and spread the awareness, I would be thrilled!
