Kickin' it for the Cure
the problem:
Approximately 294,000 children under the age of 18 have Arthritis. I was one of those 294,000. Many people think Arthritis is just something old people have but it affects kids as well. Research is being done on Juvenile Arthritis but the funding is limited. This is a real problem for those who suffer everyday.

0why it's important:
I have been battling Arthritis since I was 15 and I found an organization, Alpha Omicron Pi, that has huge philanthropies for this cause. Most people are not aware that Arthritis affects kids as well as adults. I will be in a wheel chair by the time I am 30 because all my disks will have degenerated by then. This Organization funds Juvenile Arthritis Research specifically and I think that is wonderful.
the plan of action:
My something is organizing large philanthropies to donate to Juvenile Arthritis Research. I am very involved in planning these events but recently our chapter has experienced budget cuts and we were not able to do our usual fall philanthropy where we usually raise anywhere from $2000-$5000. This breaks my heart and I want to make sure our spring philanthropy event is twice as good. This will be very hard because we have a much smaller budget for that as well. This particular event is a Kickball tournament that is usually geared towards just the Greek community. There is an entry fee per team, T-Shirts are sold, donations are taken, and there is raffles. I want to use the $500 to advertise in the Tampa Tribune and St.Pete Times as well as the campus news paper like normal so the entire Tampa Bay area comes out to participate and support. I also would like to see a TV spot on cable television. Getting food and raffle prizes donated from local businesses is easy but advertising is simply not something that is donated. I want to see this event raise $20,000 or more. With this extra money for advertising, I think it will be possible.
how you can get involved:
Others can help by coming to our event and donating or by starting a philanthropy of their own to raise money for Juvenile Arthritis Research.
