The Problem

According to the Fort Worth Business Press 40% of Americans live beyond their means. According to share-save-spend.com, the average 21-year-old in the U.S. will spend more than 2.2 million in their lifetime. According to the U.S. Commerce Department, in 2005 the savings rate in America went below Great Depression levels. And that was before the recession of 2008. In 2008, the American economy took a downward spiral. Many Americans lost their jobs and eventually their homes. In Georgia where I am from banks are closing at the highest rates in the country. In the high schools that the KENO Micro-Fund targets between 9 and 17% of the kids did not meet state standards in math. Between 9 – 32 % did not meet state standards in science. The KENO Micro-Fund teaches financial literacy and helps kids do better in math, science and LIFE.

Plan of Action

My plan of action is to host a summer financial literacy boot camp targeting key high schools in Georgia where the students did not succeed in math and science.
