The Problem

We are bringing Kindergarten students and seniors together to form a connection and understand the mutually beneficial relationship that can be achieved between people of different ages. We want to give our students the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of local seniors (from here on will be referred to as "Kinder Buddies") and at the same time get a glimpse of history related through the personal experience of our "Buddies".

Plan of Action

Our Kinders will receive weekly visits from seniors/residents at Hope Village in Traverse City. During each visit, Kinders will "interview" their Buddy to get to know him/her and learn about what life was like while he/she was growing up. During classroom visits, Buddies will also read books about seniors/children and play games with the students. After each visit, students will journal about what they learned during their time with their Buddy. At our last school visit, with the help of parents, Kinders will film and interview our Buddies for a video about our time together and about what we have learned. As a celebration of our project, our Kindergarten classes will take a field trip to Hope Village to host a "Kinder Buddy Bingo Tournament" where they will play with a larger group of residents. At the end of our time together, each student will create a scrapbook page that will go into a larger scrapbook for the Buddies - pages will include ntoes, poems, special things students learned, photos, etc. Students will present the books and to our Buddies at an all-school assembly in May.
