The Problem

Kyomya village is located about 12 km from Jinja town, the second largest city in Uganda. It is very remote, so there is little to no government/AIDS relief agencies in the area. Most people live on less than $1 a day. The project is aimed at helping the 150 HIV/AIDS orphans in the village obtain food, school supplies, etc. The schooling is currently done in a church or outside under a tree, and the village is looking to build a new school because the church cannot house every student. Often times, the orphans must take care of their siblings and only get 1 meal a day at dinner. This greatly reduces their concentration.

Plan of Action

Currently, I have gotten a school supply drive of about 50 pounds of school supplies started in my school district. I am planning on getting a grant so I can buy fund-raising bracelets (about 10,000) to raise $10,000 for the village. I would also like to spread awareness about these orphans and maybe facilitate some kind of correspondence communication between the village and kids helping in the organization.
