The Problem

In society, women’s opinions and sense of individuality are often overlooked. Thus, the club helps members develop a sense of self-confidence, self-empowerment, individuality and equality. The event is intended to raise money for the United Nations Girl Up campaign which gives American girls the opportunity to channel their energy and compassion to raise awareness and funds for programs of the United Nations that help some of the world’s hardest-to-reach adolescent girls. Through Girl Up’s support, girls have the opportunity to become educated, healthy, safe, counted, and positioned to be the next generation of leaders.

Plan of Action

The Yes We Can “Ladies Night” event is designed to commemorate the success of Fort Hamilton High School’s Yes We Can club for the 2010-11 school year and raise money for the Girl Up campaign. It is a festival to honor the young girls in the Brooklyn community. During this event there is a scheduled: poetry session based on female empowerment, a fashion show to introduce the members, an award ceremony to be given to the members based on their contributions to the club, a presentation of the Girl Up foundation, a nail salon that provides guests with manicures, a make-up and hairstyling station that provides tutorials, and a photo booth. Tickets that are purchased at admission will go directly to the Girl Up campaign.
