Language, Culture, and Geography Awareness
the problem:
What community does this affect? The United States of America.
I would like to do something to bring about greater awareness in Americans towards global language, culture, and geography. In the rest of the industrialized world, English is considered as basic as computer skills or physical education, yet in the United States we tend to ONLY rely on English for all of our everyday needs. Thus bringing a disadvantage to Americans in today's competitive and ever-expanding society.

1why it's important:
Many Americans don't think this is a big issue, but it truely is. Internationally, many businessess and foreigners who don't encourage knowing wider cultures and languages are finding it increasingly harder to succeed.
the plan of action:
Statistics show that relatively few Americans speak a second language, furthermore, the majority of Europeans know as many as 3-5 languages in some cases. They have more opportunities to learn language and culture in today's world, while Americans are left behind. I want to start a project that will increase this awareness in America that will ultimately bring about more opportunities for Americans, higher education as multilinguality has a direct influence on education, and introduce more cultures to American citizens.
how you can get involved:
Honestly, the spark for this project ignited in me almost literally before I wrote this, but I feel strongly enough about this that I am willing to go all-out.
