The Problem

Teaching students how to be leaders by showing them it takes a team. We showed students it doesn't matter how rich or poor you are you can be a leader, no matter what happened in their past. We teach that a negative past doesn't equal the future and they can become what they want to be. We try to solve the issue of them thinking they can't do something because someone says they can't.

Plan of Action

We did a 2 and a half day leadership camp for the 130 students we had that year from grades 6 to 9 from schools in Pinal County. First day we do icebreakers and a night hike. The hike uses metaphor teaching to get the group to come closer as a team. The next day we have stations including a ropes course and various activities that involve the students working as a team. We also have all teams gather in a big room to have a presentation given to teach them how to think outside the box. We take them to places a little out of their comfort zone just enough to teach a lesson through the metaphors like how they might be high in power but someone below has to help them along the way, which i used for the ropes course. Since they where many feet above ground they had a partner down below to help them, and at the end it sometimes takes a big just but its up to them to take it.
