The Problem

Respond to the AIDS and poverty crisis in Africa by supporting programs that promote the health, welfare, education and advancement of women and children. We want to help women and children in Africa in their battle against poverty and AIDS. The crisis there is our problem as well, and we wish to do all that we can to reverse it.

Plan of Action

Our objectives are to: • Educate the CGA (Culver Girls Academy), Culver and wider communities about the AIDS crisis in Africa • Raise money to support programs that promote the health, welfare and advancement of women and children • Initiate and support experiences for CGA students to learn and work in Africa We have done this by supporting and sponsering numerous educational initiatives: Educational events sponsored or supported: • Mission trips to Christel House, South Africa • Various presentations to CGA and The Academies on topics such as AIDS, Oprah Winfrey’s Christmas Kindness documentary, Christel House Story updates on the Amani Children’s Foundation. • Presentation to The Association of Boarding Schools • Presentations to Culver Board of Trustees and Chicago Alumnae • Journey of Compassion and Goodwill event at Culver Coffee Company • World AIDS Day presentations in December 2004 and 2005 • Teen Forum sponsored by The Amani Children’s Foundation, Indianapolis IN • Harvest Festival – Supporting local farmers growing crops to aide Ugandan food growers
