The Problem

The project I am working on takes place in the south side of Peoria, Illinois. The project aims to help children gain an education. So many children each year are failed by their educational system. This is a serious problem that will affect the lives of the youth.

Plan of Action

At first I was not so sure of where I wanted to volunteer. I visited and researched several social service agencies in Peoria, Illinois. I was informed about Common Place during a visit at Children’s Home Academy. When I went to Common Place and saw what they were able to do for children I became inspired. I knew that was where I wanted to be. Tutoring at Common Place has been such a meaningful experience. Nothing could take away the bond I have with those children. I love them and I love that I get to teach them. Teaching isn’t limited to textbooks and measurements. At Common Place we also teach life values and life lessons.
