Legalization of Ferrets

So I wrote area's city's councilwoman and got no response. I noticed my parents were voting for someone new and that this individual had a hand in building a nearby dog park. So I decided he must care about the welfare of animals and their owners and I contacted him. He wrote me right back and said if he were elected he would do all he could for me on this issue. I began working on his campaign and he was elected. During his first two year term we were not successful on changing the legislation this issue. So I worked on his re-election campaign. This time he was successful and I became the proud owner of a ferret. I saw that one person really could make a difference! Now when I go into pet shops I see ferrets everywhere and feel very proud of my involvement on their behalf. Now ferret breeding and selling is regulated, people don't fear taking their pet to a Veterinarian for fear of being "discovered" and possibly fined thereby risking the health of their pets. It was once illegal to own ferrets in Dallas, Texas, but the current Dallas City Code for Animals includes regulations for the vaccination of ferrets. I am so glad I was able to "Do Something" to make a difference in my community and find a passion for community service.
