I am working with the Piedmont Wildlife Refuge, which is housed in the park, to develop this interpretive trail. I started by touring the trail to get an idea of the topics that would be relavant to the area and how many signs would be needed. Next, I brainstormed a list of specific topics for each sign and began researching these topics.
A kiosk at the beginning of the trail will include a map of the trail, so I began work on creating a map using a GPS locator and GIS mapping software.
The next steps will be to create the text and layout for each sign and recruit and artist to create illustrations for the signs. Once, the layouts for the signs is complete, then the signs will need to be printed and displays will need to be made that are durable and weather resisant.
These signs will give trail users a little bit of information that they may not have known before and hopefully spark an interest in wildlife and conservation of our natural resources.
