The Problem
We are a young non-profit organization, Lifehouse Crisis Maternity Home, incorporated in 02/2010 with the State of Missouri. Our community suffers from a population of pregnant teens and women who are homeless. There are an estimated 54 homeless teens who are currently pregnant with their first or second child, and some of these girls have a history of domestic violence and/or abuse. We are committed to sheltering, educating, mentoring, and equipping these girls so they will be successful mothers, therefore enabling future success for their unborn. Our immediate need is funding for purchase of "the house". Our goal is to reach our community of over 180,000 people through fundraising and mailings. Our budget requires only a $45 monthly commitment from 600 people to get us up and running at full capacity.
Plan of Action
My plan of action is to continue fundraising events in our community with the help of our volunteers and Board of Directors. Without proper advertising and visual tools, this cannot be done effectively. We need to have signage created with our logo and mission statement at these fundraising events. We need informative brochures to hand out. We also need to purchase a mailing list in order to do direct mail, which would inform the community of our mission, and allow them to pledge their monthly gift. I plan to purchase a vinyl banner with a portable stand to display at our events. I plan to purchase a mailing list to help develop our monthly donor base. To date, our impact has been directly minimal, but indirectly huge in this community. We are partnered with Community Foundation of the Ozarks. We are collaborated with The Kitchen, Inc., Springfield Public Schools, St. John's Hospital, Pregnancy Care Center, Catholic Charities, and Missouri State University so far. We have also received our first grant for development of our website and brochure. We have received a scholarship through Missouri State University for Go & Go Lead Training. We have applied for our 501 (c) (3), and have obtained pro bono attorney representation.
