The Problem

"I am trying to keep my "at risk" alternative education class kids from running the streets and getting into trouble after school, and on weekends.

Plan of Action

My name is David Campbell. I am a teacher at Clyde Boyd Middle School in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. I teach an alternative class of 15 students ages 11 through 15. Each year, I teach a unit on Lifetime Sports with an emphasis on fishing. The lessons include fishing safety, etiquette, technique, and bait selection. We go out onto the practice field, where I teach casting and retrieval techniques. I cannot teach this unit without donation from sponsors such as you. My goal in teaching this unit is to encourage these “at risk” kids to fish rather than run the streets. After school and on weekends. We are in need of rods and reels for the kids, but we also need fishing tackle such as lures, hooks, weights, and floats. I am writing to ask you to consider out program when making your decision to grant with your “Do Something After School Program. I need enough equipment for 15 kids learn how to fish. I take them via bus to nearby Lake Keystone at least three times in the spring to actually put into practice what they have learned about fishing. We target crappie, bass, and catfish. Most of these kids have never fished before. The excitement they experience when they catch their first fish is worth all the time put into it. If we can make a difference in just one of these kids, and steer them away from street life and onto the streams and lakes surrounding us, it has been worth while. Please find it in your heart to donate some baits to this program. In return, I’ll send photos of the kids in class learning about fishing, and at the lake fishing for you to use to promote your products. I’ll also run an article in the local paper to mention how you helped our program succeed. Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to hearing from you. Promotional Acknowledgement In Consideration of the donations made, we will in our best effort, provide the following: • Hang Banner: during Lifetime Sports Lessons and events • Verbal Mention: at the beginning during, and at anytime available to show Do Something After School commitment to our youth program. • Event Photos: Provide Do Something After School with photos of events occurring in classroom, and during fishing trips. • Newspaper Article: Provide Do something After School acknowledgement in local newspaper.
