The Problem

LIGHT (Living to Inspire Global Healing Today) is a 501 (c)(3) student created group which we aim to promote small community based programs in developing nations centered around health promotion, literacy, sustainable living, and human rights education. In Haiti, we plan to start a women's health program which women and girls are educated about their anatomy and learned about sex education.

Plan of Action

The LIGHT team is extremely passionate empowering mothers and young women in a week long women's health program. In this class, women 12 and up will be provided a roof over their head, three meals a day, showers, and an education about sex to exploit modern day myths in Haiti. We acquired a doctor and three nurses who are flying down in May of 2011 to take a census, obtain actual costs of the women's health program, and our CEO Brenna Haragan, a college student, will conduct a Health Impact Assessment (HIA). After the HIA has been completed, the planning of the program will begin and will hope to start in late July or early August. We will have a test trail week to test the efficiency of the program and to make improvements. The funding will come via investors and by grassroot fundraisers, which will be conducted out of the University of Georgia in Athens, GA to obtain student's support.
