The Problem
I chose my project in Zambia because I wanted to become more aware about poverty in Africa. I want to become a Registered Nurse, and work with Doctor's Without Border's in war torn countries and disaster affected areas. I still have four years of school ahead of me before I can realize that goal, and so in the meantime sought a volunteer experience I was already qualified for. I found that in the teaching position I took with Linda's Community School. My goal was to be a positive impact in the children's lives, and to gain a first hand accurate awareness of what life is really like in Africa that I could bring back to friends and family, and that I could use to help realize my future goals.
Plan of Action
I will spend the next four years in school so that I can earn my Bachelors of Science in Nursing. I will then complete the two years of required work experience, spending that time helping poor communities at home. Upon completion of the first two years of work experience I will apply to the Doctors Without Borders program, and plan to spend a portion of every year overseas helping war torn countries, poor communities, and disaster affected areas.
