See It

LIONS PRIDE Greetings. My name is Alexandrea Ozoria. I’m currently thirteen years old, and attend PS# 69 Houghton Academy. I have been part of the Houghton Academy family for years and I have always wanted to see students take charge and have my peers develop a sense of responsibility and accomplishment that they can take with them everywhere they go; Be it in another school, job or even a city, there would be nothing better than to have my fellow classmates have a sense of self identity which isn‘t based just on what or who they are according to demographics, or peer pressure or societies statistics…but on what they can become! We are the future. This way our already excelling students as well as all students that are in need an extra boost, have their own voice and opinions that can inspire them to be proud and successful in their outlook on the future. I believe that the most effective way to do that is to allow my fellow students an outlet to voice there opinions and views as well as give them something to work on. My mom and I, because of this want to start a new school news paper! The title of the paper is still being worked at but I really like “The Lion’s Pride” because our school emblem is the lion for it courage and strength, which are qualities that everyone one in our school and our community possess. It will be weekly or monthly depending on the amount of funding and circumstances and will be distributed though our school. This news paper is to showcase the students and our community children from Pre-K to 8th and promote our school in a positive way to attract others into joining the Houghton Academy family, in which I am very proud to be a student of. Although we [The school, Mom and I] have to do a bit of work on the basics, we know our main goal. To provide a safe place were children and teens alike may voice their opinions and to give them a sense contribution in fulfilling their duties to the community, in and out of school. To provide a chance for people to have a median for self expression though the arts and music and sports to provide room to relate and communicate, ideas, emotions, possibly inventions, who knows. After all it was a five year old that asked President Carter to help make a car that was electric so we could conserve oil which President Carter was putting effort into to save us from ecomomic distess back then, and look that was an idea almost 30 years ago and now there are hybrids. I wish most of all to motivate students though hard-hitting articles and interviews with successful community leaders, entrepreneurs, and people who make a difference! Wow,a five year old, I'd like to interview him now.He made an impact and probably didnt even realize it. We also want to make it so that this paper can be an outlet were people can seek comfort in and realize they are not alone in the world, especiallyhere in the USA , we would like to be an ear and offer advice, and numbers to child services/advocacies centers, and crisis hotlines that may be able to help out the kids here. By offering a chance to link the community with the school and better the lives and ways of the children we can make a difference and change attitudes and bring forth positive light, And definitely help someone along the way. Lets better the today for a better tomorrow. I believe with the assistance of this organization I can start my paper, with the assistance of Houghton Academy, students and staff it will be a success, and with my hard work and dedication I will not only make a milestone for myself but also for future students at Houghton Academy.
