See It

University of Delaware (the university I and several of the others involved attend) is known for its parties, and the problems associated with the drugs and alcohol that naturally coincide with them. What if there were an environment that provided the same kind of dancing atmosphere as a rave, but without the danger of drug use and excesses of alcohol? What if this place could create an atmosphere that successfully filled in all of those places people tried to fill with alcohol and drugs? Is it possible to take something that is so deeply associated with "all the wrong things" and turn it around in a positive direction? We decided it would be a good idea to try out.

Believe It

The Liquid Love rave project deals with this problem by creating a positive atmosphere based on encouragement and focus on things other than just the desire to get smashed/high. It addresses the issue by proving that an environment devoid of drugs and alcohol can be fun and fulfilling!

Build It

My friend Brian, myself, and a group of our friends with the same vision invested time and money to acquire equipment and music to create a believable rave environment. I personally spent many hours acquainting myself with the music, organizing a play list and focused on being prepared to DJ the event. The impact of an event like a simple party is difficult to measure, but I feel that it showed the attendees and those watching the event two things: For the attendees, that they don't need to have drugs and alcohol to have a good time. For those observing who might have had doubts, that any kind of environment can be positively impacted.

How Can Others Get Involved?

Right now future Liquid Love events are on hold, but we will be planning new events in the future. Spiritual and open minded individuals interested in safe and drug/alcohol free environments are welcome to volunteer for the next event.
