I am hoping to work towards a more literate America. I want to help children learn to read.

1why it's important:
This is incredibly important to me as the advancement of civilization is built upon language and literacy. I think there is a huge education gap in the American education system and this problem begins with literacy. When a child cannot read their assignments, they will struggle and fall behind in classes which can impact the rest of their education.
the plan of action:
My plan is to further my education by obtaining a master's degree in English language linguistics from either the University of Edinburgh or Oxford University. With a degree in the foundations of the language, I hope to develop a stronger method of teaching children to read. I then plan on working in American school systems helping children learn to read by creating new programs to enhance literacy in elementary school children and improving previously established programs to help teachers with the difficult task of teaching children to read.
