The Problem
We are trying to bring dating violence to the attention of students in grades 9 -12. We will share with them statistical evidence of dating abuse, what to do if you are being abused, and who to go to for help.
Plan of Action
We will make an announcement in the morning after we play a song (My name is Luca) - and give statistical information about dating violence, and how the day will look. The freshman are making posters before that day and the seniors in a Community Service Learning Class are going to pick the best one that represents the Dating Violence Awareness Day. We will have matching stickers made for that day that is representative of the national average of people who have experienced dating violence. Therefore, 333 out of approx. 1000 students will be wearing the stickers so students throughout the day will be "seeing" the stats all day.. (in classes and in the halls). At lunch we will have a table outside the cafeteria that will allow students to trace their hand and put it on a huge banner that says "These Hands Wont Hurt" . At the table students will also be able to make their own beaded bracelets for a dollar donation we will give to the YWCA.
