The Problem

Young kids have very limited oppertunities to give back. Less than 30% of the adult population regularly volunteers and helps out in their community. I believe this stems from the fact that as kids, they did not have a strong base and foundation in volunteerism. The second problem we help is two fold, for both animals in shelters and underprivelaged kids. They rarely have any stability in their lives and, have little to comfort them on a cold winter night. They need something cozy and comforting to help make their horrible situation a little better.

Plan of Action

As of March 2010, Maddie’s Blankets has made over 2000 blankets in Virginia and other states including NC, MS, GA, CA, and KS. I have worked with Girl Scouts, Brownies, Daisies, church youth groups and community groups. Maddie's Blankets is also has regular events at my school as a way for students to earn their required community service hours. We plan on continuing to work with these groups and continue to try to find more places that will take our blankets as a way of expansion and hope so eventually get Maddie's Blankets as a nationwide organization.
