The Problem

The problem I'm trying to solve through my project is the restriction of free thought and speech. Make A Statement Club (MASC) is a new initiative for students at Needham High School to create programs that allow youth to voice their opinions on issues of importance to them. Through provocative programming, students can raise awareness, promote discussion, and express their thoughts and feelings on issues such as diversity, tolerance, sexuality, freedom, health, current events, etc.

Plan of Action

My plan of action is to ensure the continuation of this annual event at my school - it is a valuable day that all of the students at my high school look forward to every year. Planning for Make A Statement Day starts in October. Students organize every part of the event, including fund raising, personal relations, advertising, secretarial tasks, and overall event planning. Meetings before school are used to organize the event. Make A Statement Day takes place in March, and usually takes place in conjunction with a school-wide awareness month. In 2009, it was a part of Needham High School's "Own You Piece/Peace" Month.
