The Problem

The agricultural industry in this country has proven to be destructive to both the environment and the laborers involved. There has been a positive response to this with the small farms movement but there is still much to be accomplished. Mainly there is a considerable gap in the small-farm labor force with labor that is both affordable, ethical, and well-trained.

Plan of Action

We will create a youth corps modeled after the youthe conservation corps movement which arose during the 1970s. We will employ young people and transient workers and give them valuable training on farms, whilstwhile feeding and housing them. We will be operating a farm ourselves, the Many Hands Farm Cooperative, but the ultimate goal is to somewhat transform the landscape of small farm labor in the Pioneer Valley in western Mass. by contracting these groups out to other farms: fair labor for a fair wage.
