Mentoring Children of Prisoners Program at Chicago Youth Centers

the problem:

Mentoring Children of Prisoners is a community based program at Chicago Youth Centers matching community volunteers with children (ages 4-17 years old) who have an incarcerated parent.

vital stats:

people impacted:

80

people involved:

91

why it's important:

Matches go on outings (i.e. park, zoo, roller skating, library, book store, etc...) twice a month for at least one year.

the plan of action:

Mentors need to attend a training session (typically the 2nd Saturday of each month at our office: 3947 S. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60653) and submit an application. We will then schedule you for an interview and send you to get fingerprinted (criminal background check). If everything looks good, we will match you with a mentee. The process can be swift if you follow all the steps pretty quickly :)

how you can get involved:

Become a mentor! Email: mentoring@chicagoyouthcenters.org or Call Christy at 773-268-3815, x33 to sign up!
