Hello guys!
We are currently working on hosting a benefit concert. Will keep you updated.
Mercy to Mankind Foundation
the problem:
Somalia is a country that has endured 20 years of devastating war leading to the worst humanitarian crisis in the world. Due to the famine, 29,000 Somali children, mainly orphans, have died. They are dying from lack of water, food, and preventable diseases. I established Mercy to Mankind Foundation to open an orphanage in Mogadishu that cares for 100 orphaned children from ages 3-13. With consistent efforts, the organization raised enough funds to provide those children with food, water, medicine, and two full-time teachers. We recently began working on our second project in which we rented a spacious home that cares for 50 children. With 150 children under my care, I believe I'm a voice for famine stricken children of Somalia.

4why it's important:
The project is important to me more than ever now because Somalia is facing the worst drought in history. The most vulnerable group are children with over half a million children facing starvation. Many have become internally displaced living in camps in horrid conditions while others die on the journey to neighboring countries to live as refugees. All of our 150 orphans lived in refugee camps within Mogadishu where they were fighting to stay alive, whereas in the orphanage, they're just simply kids.
the plan of action:
Since June 2011, I have partnered with two Washington, DC based organizations to host fundraising and awareness events on behalf of Mercy to Mankind Foundation. The $1,200/month it takes to run the orphanages comes from the events hosted by these organizations. The main plan of action is partner with more local organizations who are willing to make monthly contributions. During our last monthly meeting, we kicked off the "I Pledge" campaign in which we are determined to find 40 individuals to donate $20/month. The funds from the donors along with $1,200 we regularly raise, it would allow us to turn the newly established orphanage into a children's center.
how you can get involved:
The best way for an individual to get involved is to donate monthly, make a one-time donation at our site, or help organize and execute our fundraising events.
project updates:
Would like to thank everyone who came to our event in George Mason, it was beyond what I expected. It's because of such people that motivate us to keep going. Thank you.
