See It

To honor my grandmother, whom we lost in 2005 to Ovarian Cancer right after Hurricane Katrina swept through our home, and in keeping with her life long passion for and love of horticulture and conservation pursuits, I established the Mildred Clark Nelson Memorial Scholarship in 2006 to recognize, encourage and support deserving female graduating seniors in St. Tammany Parish, LA, pursuing careers in the life sciences, horticulture, conservation or allied subjects. To fund the scholarship, among other things, I sold lemonade and also donated my allowance. The 2007 inaugural recipent of the $500 award was Miss Indya Lane who is now a Freshman in Pre-Med at Louisiana State University. She plans to be an Ob-Gyn. The next recipient will be announced in April 2008.
