The Problem

Environmental injustice plagues lower-income and minority communities. People in such communities are disproportionately affected by environmental degradation. Such communities lack access to clean food options and are often near railways, factories, or power plants. Such precarious living conditions leave community members susceptible to life threatening conditions.

Plan of Action

The Miss In Action Spring 2013 Workshop Series is an initiative that aims to empower women and young girls as well as increase involvement and awareness about environmental issues. Miss In Action will aim to work with women and young girls in low-income communities and engage them in workshops that build self-esteem, develop leadership skills, and teach goal-setting techniques. The women and young girls will then be offered the knowledge and skills to bring environmental awareness and sustainable solutions to their communities. They will simultaneously be building their communities, developing their character, and recognizing their ability.
