The Problem

The problem that Elsie Allen's Lobo Unity Club is trying to solve is stereotypes. Elsie Allen High School is rumored to be a problem in Southwest Santa Rosa due to gang violence, but this is not the case. Elsie Allen High School is neighboring the Roseland community, which is known to be a rough area. Since Elsie Allen is neighboring Roseland it has been determined that the school must be a bad school, but this is just not true. Many students at Elsie Allen High School have made a difference in their communities due to the Lobo Unity club at their high school. Lobo Unity members have volunteered at many Community events around Santa Rosa such as: The Sonoma County Book Fair, Dia de Indepencia, Cinco de Mayo, the Youth Summit, etc. Lobo Unity has also hosted events such as the annual Lobo CommUnity fair held on campus each year. This year the Lobo Unity club is looking to start a new project known as Dinner and Movie in the Park. The goal is to bring families from the community together to mingle and to gain information with the booths displayed around the park. Lobo Unity would put on a barbecue and set up a movie as often as possible to bring the community together and hopefully inspire more events in Southwest Santa Rosa. To do this though we need funding. We are hoping that if we got the grant that we would be able to at least cover the cost of some of the food. Lobo Unity is hoping to make this event a possibility within the next few months and we can use all the help we can get. We are looking to strengthen our community and show the rest of Santa Rosa what Elsie Allen High School is really about. Thank you for your time and if you do invest your time and money in us you won’t be disappointed.

Plan of Action

So far we have done all the planning. We have asked the city of Santa Rosa to wave the fees to use the park, the gazebo, and the license to show a movie on a blow up projector. We have estimated the prices of food, the movie screen, the cost of the park for the day and the permit needed to show the movie. We plan to invite organizations to set up booths around the park to inform the community about their organization. We have listed the items we need and what we need to do to make this a reality. We hope to make an impact on the neighbors that attend the event and to prove to all of Santa Rosa that Elsie Allen is not a bad high school.
