The Problem

Cancer affects people in every town all accross the USA, and my town of Yorktown, NY has two prominent organizations to help men and women affected by this horrible disease. Support Connection is an organization that holds support meetings and programs that help women and their families to deal with cancer. Since they are a non-profit organiztion, they need help in funding these beneficial programs and half of the money raised at our benefit concert was donated to them. We also donated our funds to our local branch of the American Cancer Society, through our Relay for Life team. The American Cancer Society helps to find a cure for Cancer.

Plan of Action

This project started last year our first benefit concert was held on April 24th, 2009 at Yorktown High School. Special performers included Phil Bensen and Hart Attack and we raised over $2,300 for the American Cancer Society. We held our second benefit concert on May 8th, 2010, also at Yorktown High School. We had a lot more performers at this event, including L2, The Melillo Brothers, Tyna Q and Chris Koon as well as some local talent. We raised over $2,400 for both Support Connection and The American Cancer Society. The Yorktown Leo Club and I plan to hold a third benefit concert in the spring of 2011 and hope to make it even bigger and better than the previous two.
