Ijamsville, MD, 21754See map: Google MapsWhat's the problem you are trying to solve?: We are trying to collect money and instruments to send to The Roots of Music. A free music program in New Orleans providing free instruments, academic tutoring, hot meals, and transportation to middle schoolers (9-14) to keep them off the violent streets. Why is it important to you?: The project is important to us because we all grew up with music either listening or playing it. We believe it is wrong for kids to not be able to play music because they are poor or their schools don't have money for music education. What's your plan of action?: 1. Network with musicians, teachers, friends, family, and student body.
2. Publicize the project in newspapers, schools, internet, magazines, and music stores.
3. Start instrument collection.
4. Fundraise with bake sales, help from Rotary Club, stores and businesses and everyone who can donate.
5. Check inventory and count money donations.
6. Gather all donations and prepare for trip to New Orleans.
7. Deliver the instruments and money to The Root of Music. How Can Others Help?: They can help by spreading the word and giving us connections to people who can donate instruments. Also, they can donate instruments, money or both.
