The communinity where we do our project is located and surrounded by middle to low income families. Our high schools are having problems with teens staying in school,being suspended and expelled due to behavior problems. There are not many things for teens or programs that get our interest in positive ways. For the males in our community we need role models as well as activities that do not always relate to sports. Music has helped me in many ways. It is my motivation as well as motivation for the others in our group. Working on projects and knowing that each of us are serving a purpose in a project that we are working on, motivates us to do right in school, at home and in the community.

Music is used as a motivation to stay in school and do right. Music can relate to the things we are learning in school. Music is Math, Lyrics are the same as Literature. We get help with our school work during our time in the studio. Our motivation is to complete our school work so that we can work on our music projects. We make a commitment to each other to do right in school because we work as a group. Our goal is to get more youth involved. This will help others inprove in school. many youth do not have things to do which causes problems for them. All youth are not interested in in sports and our program provides other ways to youth can spend ther time as well as learn.

We formed a group of youth that expressed an interest in various forms of music. We began meeting and brought our various talents together. We found an organization that learned what we were interested in doing and provided us with the space and has provided us with the equipment that we use for music making and recording. In meeting we learned how important each was to the project and decided make contracts about our behaviors, school, work and home life so that we had a commitment to each other. This has helped us improve and motivated us to do better. Any youth is invited to be a part of our project however they must make a commitment as well. It has actually worked. We meet weekly and are making plans to meet 3x week and provide homework assistance to our program.

We are seeking people that have experience and knowledge to assist us in learning various aspects of music. Financially we are in need of computer programs for our tutoring program and money for more equipment and assesories that are needed. We are also working on getting other parents and school people to know what we are doing and why we are doing it. Materials and finances for advertising is also needed.
