My Eagle Scout Project

I planed a project to paint a giant map of the United States for geography studying purposes on the cement slab under the main pavilion of Saint John’s Elementary School in Essexville, MI. My team and I had to take careful measurements of the cement slab and had to order a stencil that would fit inside the designated area at maximum size. My team and I then had to research paint to find what was best to use on the pavement before we started the project. It turned out to be oil based paint. My team and I then waited for a nice day to set out with our supplies. Once at the pavilion, we will had to lay out the stencil of United States on the pavement. From here we had to take a pavement safe spray paint and spray a base layer of paint in the spaces that were laid out on the stencil. After the paint dried, the stencils had to be removed and a hand drawn chalk line made to create the outline of each state. Each individual state was then filled in with the appropriate color, so as each state was separate and distinct. My project benefited the group because it will allow for the educating of students who will later be our future leaders. It also added some color to the school. It will allow teachers and other educators to help students in understanding where the states are located, know where the capitols are, and learn where major bodies of water are located within the United States. Each summer I go back to the school to perform any maintenance on the map that may need to take place. This keeps the map in good looking order, and allows for the enjoyment of the students and teachers for the upcoming school year.
