This summer, eager to chart new territory with this group, I began to think about what I could do to affect change in my community, myself and my friends. My initial thought was, "There are just so many causes out there to be involved in, so many desperate needs begging to be met, so much brokenness that needs healing, so many people that need help ... we need a way to make the seemingly insurmountable mountain of needs more accessible." And that is how My Verb is: Serve's "Do One Thing" Benefit Concert was born. The event will allow local bands to perform for an awesome cause, collect canned food to feed the nearly 2,000 families per month that Manna Food Center provides for, and hopefully inspire everyone who attends to find one simple way to make a difference.

My Verb is: Serve will host the “Do One Thing” Benefit Concert on Saturday, July 19th from 7-10pm at Silver Spring Christian Reformed Church. The goal of the concert is: To support a charity organization (Manna Food Center) by collecting as admission to the concert the food items they most need to feed hungry Montgomery County families, and to have each person in attendance leave the concert with ONE tangible way to serve - big or small.

I started “My Verb is: Serve”, a volunteer organization, one year ago as a group on Facebook to facilitate community service opportunities for young people and to foster a passion for service. The group became the critical link between teens and young adults who wanted to serve and the organizations that needed their help. In the first month and a half, we’d completed 130 hours of community service all over Maryland and DC.
