The Problem

Learning that more media streams are firing their journalists, what the future will offer to aspiring news students? Being a journalistic student myself, I felt frustrated since the beginning of my freshman year for not having, as many of my classmates, opportunities to break into the media business. I am trying to help the communication's community at my University and right now, what we want to do is a multimedia project. I founded a while ago a blog, which has more than 5,000 visits in the last two months, but we want to publish a magazine too in order to reach a more wider audience who don't have internet.

Plan of Action

The steps I took to create this project was going to wordpress.com and founding a blog for the chapter. Once I did it, I started recruiting reporters, being already the vicepresident of the chapter and also editor of it, and forming an editorial line. After creating Spanish columns to discuss a great variety of topics, our committee decided to create a more consistent publication, such as a magazine which will have the greatest work to date from our reporters. The Mira Hispana magazine will contain works such as local warning (global warming in Puerto Rico), Special Olympics 2010 (for differently abled kids), How far will go the Online Dating scheme etc... But this will only made an impact if we could raise money to publish it. Our chapter's members have to pay a certain amount to the organization in the United States, and we as a committee don't feel it is appropiate to keep asking them to pay for the publishing houses fees. That's why I took the chance to write to you in order to help us achieve one of our most important goals. We want to present ourselves to the University in a serious way, not just in a blog which has helped us all along but still, we don't even had the resources to pay for a .org domain. We have already recieved 5,000 visits in our blog, and also lots of positive feedback from our own professors. We would really appreciate your help in achieving our goals.
