Native Florida Hardwood Hammock Restoration
the problem:
We would like to expand upon a patch of native Floridian trees that a professor named Dr Stone planted when our research and development K - 12 school was in it's infancy on campus of Florida Atlantic University many years ago. This existing hammock of native hardwood trees on our campus would be an ideal teaching tool for our cutting edge developments at the laboratory school.

10why it's important:
Our group of 4 6th grade girls (The Green Team) would like to spread the word and with the help of our parent and student volunteers, we would like to restore the area with pathways and informational posts along the way to explain what purpose the native trees provide for our environment.
Dr. Stone has promised a walk through and will be giving expert advice at every step of the way in restoring the native hammock he planted.
the plan of action:
Our parent group at A.D.Henderson has already adopted "The Green Machine" initiative and partnered with FAU on their Mission Green promise. We four sixth graders would like to join with them as well to teach students younger than us how important the environment is to them and their children. We need to provide tools and materials for this organization to get started on restoring the natural hardwood hammock. We hope to have a presentation on EARTH DAY in 2009 and invite Dr Stone to honor him for his vision.
how you can get involved:
Clearing the area of invasive species and learning how to plant the correct native species in our area will benefit anyone who learns by this project.
